Jobless

Just had an intense week for me and students here at ISU. Dead week is memang no joke. Slept a lot lesser this week, as compared to the usual me.. I can sleep 10 minutes after dinner until morning.. haha..

Some numbers to blog this time: job cuts.

Sorted by days in this week only, here are some of the latest announcements from several huge companies.

Monday
Dow Chemical: 5000 jobs cut, 20 plants to be closed
Anheuser-Busch InBev: 1400 positions cut
3M: 1800 cuts


Tuesday
Sony + Danaher Corp. + Wyndham Worldwide + Principal Financial Group + National Football League = 14,400 jobs cut

Wednesday
Office Depot: 2200 jobs cut
Rio Tinto: 14,000 jobs cut worldwide
SKF: 2,500 jobs cut worldwide

Thursday
Bacnk of America: 35,000 wow

Friday
CEM: 500 jobs cut (20% of the staff liao)
FCS: 1,100 jobs cut worldwide (12% of the staff liao)

That's a total of 81,500 jobs cut, this week alone.

2 million jobs this year, so far, has been slashed.

I can imagine employers at their cubicle now, working extra hard in hoping to keep their jobs, at the same time searching for an alternative.

I heard that Honda team is retreating from the F1 championship next year. That means driver Jenson Button and Rudens Barrichello lost their jobs too. If every team faces the same situation too, gam F1 mai dong goh sui loorrrr... =(

Indeed, recession has affected and will affect everybody. On my side, I couldn't sell my sister's car. Entertainment is lesser (F1 for example). Less shopping deals. Might need to pay more tax sooon. Jobless.

Recession in the US has gone very deep. Still going deeper. When will it peak?

Is the government currently doing the right move? I don't think so. I hope Chrysler know what are they doing now.

Who is benefiting at this moment?

Where do I stand as a graduating engineer at this situation?

Hehe.. I guess there's nothing I can do for now.. at least for the next 4 weeks, coz I'll be flying back home liaoz! yay

It's work hard time.

Focus!

This week is the (so call) dead week.

And I can't focus on my studies.

Had four classes today, couldn't concentrate on all four of them. No complete notes today~

I'M TOO VERY EXCITED TO GO BACK HOME!

In less than 10 days, I can meet my family and Sandy girl and my lovely friends oh I'm so looking forward~

I bought Chrismas pressies and souveniers d. Started packing luggage liao.

I really really really need to stay focus on my finals right now.

So difficcult dam!

Mayonnaise Jar and Two Beers

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar; he shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced the two beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost
and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and
your car.

The sand is ever ything else---the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities.

'The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beers represented. The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.'

The beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

Got this form my sister some time ago, too lazy to open it until another friend of mine send this same thing to me today. I read it. Can't wait to share this with everybody. 

In life, nothing is more precious than things that really matters - family and friends.

I'm glad. Very glad that I have a happy healthy family, and friends that will die for each other. I deeply appreciate all of them a lot. Love you all.

Just woke up.

8.15am
Reached office. Not awake, but too many tasks lie ahead. Immediately started production line to make a bunch of perfect parts. Took dimensions. All were within tolerances which was good. Drove a 4X4, delivered parts for inspection approval.

10am
Received a call. I was told all parts were approved. Cue to prepare for pilot run. Operator were challenge to beat their best time. He cheated with some help from his temporary workers, but it's totally fine. Welded parts in cart, sent to assembly production line. Replied important emails from Webster City, Ames, Cedar Rapids, Kuala Lumpur and home.

11.30am
Meeting prior pilot run. Question: can we make it for the pilot run? Issues concerned were discussed. Solved. We can make it.

12pm
Drove my fierce ah-ma to a repair shop nearby. My air con was dead. So I told the mechanics the problem while he sat on the driver seats, fondling fierce ah-ma's tits. Then he opened the hood. Inspected and touched a lil here and there. I'm pretty sure he's lost. He told me: "I'm guessing it's the wiring circuit connection. You might wanna try Ree's. They're pretty good when it comes to electronics. Sorry." Fierce ah-ma said: "bbq." I thanked him before I took back my keys. Started the engine. The air con came alive!! Grr.. I own a very guai lan car. When she knows I'm sending her for detention, she'll behave.

Told my bossy I will behave.

2pm
Pilot Run. An important event where all engineers, product designers and whoever involved in making the new product gather around the production line to witness the making of the 1st batch of product. Basically, if the pilot run went well, product will be launched, mass produced and orders will be taken. Many issues were brought up, but the matters were minor. I'm glad to be there. Engineers were very happy. Everything went well. I see accomplishments. I hear cheers of celebration. It's like watching a kid you've taught for years graduated. It's a very good feeling. I think I like my job a lot.

5.30pm
Gym alone as usual. Underage overweight cheer leaders next doors cr8ting earthquakes as usual.

6.30pm
Cooked dinner.

9.00pm
Life sucks at this time when you enrolled in online courses. Hates it. Sociology quizzes, 8 more to go due next Friday. Accounting assignments, discussions, internet reports, power point presentation and exams.

Fuck it. Today I chose blogging. =)

I was updating my Super Hip Hop playlist a lil this evening, in which I realized there's only 1 non-english song, and that happens to be ham ka ling by LMF.. Super Hip Hop?

So I added several japanese hip hops, most of them were my favorite japanese pop star Namie Amuro. One of them, "Want Me, Want Me".

It was my competition song! I was still a cute cute boy 3 years ago when I dance to this track repeatedly and repeatedly for N times in a single practice..

Spring time @ Reiman Gardens

So about 2.5 years ago, when my mom and dad visited Iowa State University, they came back and told me about Reiman Gardens. Though they did not pay the $7 admission to enter, they can tell that it's dam cun.

My parents had a quick tour around Ames with my sis at that time. They stopped at the Hiton Coliseum, which was next to the Reiman Gardens.

They're amazed with the size and the clealiness of the campus, and then there's a protected garden which you have to pay to enter. Good it must be.

The garden is nice la, but $7 is still a bit exp to tour the garden. But for ISU students, admission is free. Hence very dai d.

The place is clean, fresh and romantic too. The flowers are awesome omg! Especially the Tulips *slurps* they were all in purple color! Aaah I think I kinda like purple...

10. I miss her a lot.

1. I'm ill. Fever with medium soar throat & flu.

2. Here, there is no restaurant that serves healthy food. The least unhealthy that I can think of is Subway. Subway's processed meat and fresh bacon are at least better than butter bugger.

3. Internet connection is relatively slow this week. This makes me sad.

4. Work is very fulfilling. Waking up early still sucks. I hate the freezing a/c in my office.

5. My laptop no longer bugs me to give her some space. I brought her a male friend. He takes all her shit, and still have 100 gb to spare.

6. I am using firefox 3 and I think you should do the same too. Click me now.

7. SmashpOp calls me bro. SmashpOp is freaky.

8. Chedet.com was locked by the administration of bloggers.com few days ago!? bbq. No wonder RSS feed did not show any updates from the blog. I love chedet.com and I will manually view the blog everyday.

Interesting Iowa

Flash flood @ Cedar Falls

Since the massive flood occurred about 2 weeks ago in Ames, the weather here has gone mad.

Heavy rain. Strong wind. Thunder storm. Tornadoes. Flash flood. Flying cows.

All of that can happen at the same time within a state.

Like today.

Western Iowa just had a tornado touchdown 2 hours ago. 4 death and 40 injuries. 3400 acres of properties destroyed. Several cows in the air. Cars too. Everybody was terrified.

Almost all major cities are flooded now. Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Ames, Boone, Ottumwa, Washburn, Waverly, etc.

Sandbags just in case @ Scheman building, Ames.

Evacuation in Cedar Falls/Cedar Rapids neighborhoods.

More than 20 highways are going to shut. Too many roads are already closed.

Millions of sandbags. Thousands of volunteers. And that's just Cedar Falls.

"We've saved this city, but we're still at a crucial point." Staudt, a volunteer from Cedar Falls said to the press.

Leaving many homeless tonight, and stress for those involved. And some maybe even not-aware, playing mahjong at home.

This weekend is going to be the geng chau 1. The midwest is expecting a historic flood in a few days time. Something like what happened to Iowa in 1993, a devastating flood.

Interesting isn't it.

I'm thinking about my plans tomorrow.

Meeting my sister and friends @ Iowa City for Korean dinner. Kanye West concert @ Moline, Illinois after that.

Or maybe I should just stay home.

And watch couples feeding each other.
